The phone or tablet supplies the music; the speaker plays it back with the singers' voices mixed on top. There is no screen and no app to install, which is exactly why parents of young children like it.

How to choose between the sets

Most families start with a two-mic mini. Pick the shell by personality: pastels for softer tastes, bold colours for older kids, character prints for younger fans of kittens and dinosaurs.
